NORDSTROM
This summer I had the wonderful experience of being a part of the Corporate Summer Internship Program at Nordstrom Headquarters in Seattle. As an intern, I was given the opportunity to learn directly from the extraordinary Nordstrom Rack buying and planning team in the Coats, Active, and Swim ‘pod’ (pictured below). Over the course of the internship, I completed classes in Excel, Rack Pricing, Retail Math for Buying, and Presentation Skills, among others. I was also able to participate in events such as a quality center tour, contact center tour, “Rack immersion” day, and full-line store experience day, where we came together as interns to set up the Nordstrom Downtown store the night before Anniversary Sale. I had the privilege of having coffee with professionals from across the company in areas such as design, marketing, and social media, including with the Nordstrom Rack president, Geevy Thomas. As a merchandising intern, I also completed an “Intern Impact Project”, where I identified liability businesses to minimize and opportunity businesses to maximize within my department, by looking at class and supplier return rates, which I presented in front of my team, peers, and higher ups near the end of the program. This internship gave me the opportunity to apply business terms and concepts from class to real life, and taught me how to think critically and strategically. It was a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget, and I continue to take what I learned and use it daily!
